The main objectives were to promote sustainable mobility, improve pedestrian safety, and enhance the urban experience in the areas of Monastiraki and the Commercial Triangle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The intervention \u03b1\u03c6\u03bf\u03c1\u03ac the restriction of vehicular traffic every Saturday from 20:00 until Sunday at 20:00, allowing for the creation of a more welcoming, organized, and functional public space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Main actions include:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assessment of existing conditions in terms of traffic operations, pedestrian flows, land uses, and public transport services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collection of traffic data, including turning movements, traffic volumes, hourly variations, and pedestrian counts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analysis of critical junctions along Athinas Street and surrounding streets (Ermou, Agias Irinis, Sarri, Sofokleous, among others).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assessment of impacts on public transport, including bus routes operating along the corridor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development of proposed traffic regulations, alternative vehicle routes, and revised routes for OASA bus services and tourist coaches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proposals for vertical and horizontal signage, as well as enforcement measures during the pedestrianization period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The central objective of the project was to create a safe, pleasant, and culturally enhanced historic city center, strengthening pedestrian mobility, local economic activity, and overall accessibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sponsor:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Municipality of Athens<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The project involved the preparation of a study for the implementation of the periodic pedestrianization of Athinas Street, one of the most important axes of Athens\u2019 historic center.
