The study focused on examining the new traffic conditions expected to emerge in central Athens and on developing evidence-based interventions to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study was carried out in collaboration with&nbsp;<strong>YATAKA Consulting<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Main actions include:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assessment of existing conditions, including analysis of road network hierarchy, traffic flows, and public transport operations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extensive field traffic surveys, such as turning movement counts, traffic volume measurements using automatic counters, and Origin\u2013Destination surveys based on license plate recognition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluation of the performance of critical junctions, including Amalias\u2013Syngrou\u2013Diakou, Kallirois\u2013Vouliagmenis, and Vasilissis Konstantinou\u2013Eratosthenous.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development of a microscopic traffic simulation model to assess alternative post-redevelopment scenarios.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Formulation of proposed traffic interventions aimed at rational mobility management and the smooth operation of the wider city center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The central objective of the project was the development of an integrated traffic management plan to support the safe and efficient reopening of Vasilissis Olgas Avenue, fully aligned with the historic and cultural character of the area and benefiting both residents and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sponsor:<\/span><br>Municipality of Athens<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The project involved the provision of specialized advisory services for the assessment and organization of traffic conditions on adjacent sections of the road network, in anticipation of the reopening of Vasilissis Olgas Avenue following its redevelopment and conversion into a low-traffic street.
