Update of the Traffic Impact Assessment and Regulatory Road Network Plan for the Revised Masterplan of the Verengaria Development Area, Kato Polemidia, Limassol

Part 1: Update of the Traffic Impact Assessment

The scope of the project involved updating the Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) for the proposed revised Masterplan of the Verengaria site in Kato Polemidia, Limassol. The study assessed the impacts of the proposed development on the existing and future road network, with the objective of ensuring its efficient operation while supporting sustainable mobility across the wider area.

Main actions included:

  • Reviewing existing conditions and collecting traffic data through on-site traffic surveys and field measurements.
  • Estimating the traffic demand generated by the proposed land uses and assessing the adequacy of the proposed parking provision.
  • Developing and calibrating a traffic simulation model to evaluate the performance of the existing and future road network, including the assessment of alternative scenarios for the different implementation phases of the Masterplan.
  • Identifying the necessary traffic improvement measures and mitigation works required to address the impacts of the proposed development.

Part 2: Regulatory Road Network Plan for the Revised Masterplan

Based on the findings of the traffic assessment, a Regulatory Plan for the internal road network of the development was prepared. The design focused on creating a safe, functional, and contemporary transport network capable of accommodating the anticipated travel demand while integrating seamlessly with the existing and future public road network, in accordance with the principles of sustainable mobility.

Main actions included:

  • Designing the internal road network of the development and its connections to the existing public road network.
  • Planning sidewalks, cycleways, and pedestrian routes in accordance with the principles of sustainable mobility and the applicable technical standards.
  • Designing vehicle and pedestrian access points, accessible ramps for persons with disabilities (PwD), and road safety features.
  • Designing road markings and kerb layouts in accordance with the applicable technical standards.
