The project involved the investigation of traffic interventions on Alaias Street in Nea Ionia, focusing on the potential pedestrian-friendly redesign or traffic calming of the street to enhance the area and improve residents’ quality of life. The study aimed to optimize traffic circulation, improve road safety, and create a more functional and attractive public space.
Main actions included:
- Assessment of the existing conditions,
- Collection of traffic data through field surveys,
- Development of alternative intervention scenarios, including partial or full conversion into a pedestrian way, traffic calming measures, and parking restrictions where required,
- Preparation of a comprehensive traffic engineering study.
The primary objective of the project was the overall enhancement of an area with high pedestrian activity due to its proximity to schools.
