The project involved the provision of specialized transport planning services for the assessment and organization of traffic conditions in the study areas of Nea Chili, as part of the maturation of public utility network studies and the extension of the area’s urban plan.
The project focused on the analysis of existing traffic conditions and the geometric characteristics of the road network, as well as on the development of evidence-based interventions to ensure rational mobility organization, safe road operation, and efficient service for residents and visitors.
Main actions include:
- Documentation and assessment of existing conditions, including analysis of road section morphology, available widths, and compatibility with the approved street layout plan.
- Development of proposals for horizontal and vertical signage, in accordance with applicable technical standards, to ensure proper traffic regulation and enhance road safety.
- Proposals for sidewalk design, aiming to ensure adequate clear pedestrian space, safe and accessible routes for persons with disabilities, and connectivity between individual road sections.
- Definition of traffic regimes, including one-way or two-way circulation, depending on available width and local service needs.
- Designation of specific sections as low-traffic streets, with speed reduction measures and prioritization of pedestrian movement.
- Development of a cycle lane proposal and designation of organized parking areas, where available road width allows.
The central objective of the project was the creation of a coherent framework of interventions and a comprehensive, functional mobility system that enhances accessibility and road safety while promoting gentle and sustainable modes of transport.
