Transportation and Traffic Studies for the City of Agios Nikolaos

The project involved the preparation of a comprehensive transportation and traffic study program for the City of Agios Nikolaos, aiming to improve traffic operations, road safety, parking management, and sustainable urban mobility. The project was structured into four distinct stages, addressing the full range of key transportation planning and traffic management challenges within the city’s urban road network.

More specifically, the project included the evaluation of the seasonal pedestrianization scheme implemented in the city center, the preparation of a comprehensive parking study, the investigation of alternative traffic management scenarios for the coastal road Akti Stylianou Koundourou, and the development of additional traffic management proposals, including traffic signage improvements, localized traffic interventions, pedestrianization measures, and traffic circulation modifications at critical locations within the urban road network.

Main actions included:

  • Evaluation of the seasonal pedestrianization scheme and its impact on the operation of the urban road network.
  • Assessment of existing parking conditions, including parking supply and demand analysis, and development of parking management strategies.
  • Traffic volume analysis and evaluation of alternative traffic management scenarios for Akti Stylianou Koundourou coastal road.
  • Traffic surveys, operational assessment of key intersections, and design of targeted traffic engineering interventions.
  • Development of traffic signage improvements, pedestrianization schemes, and additional traffic management measures to enhance the overall performance of the urban road network.
